West Bromwich manager Steve Clarke confirmed that a bid has been made for striker Simon Cox by an unnamed club, and it is largely understood that club is Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
Cox was not included in Clarke's squad for West Brom's friendly against Barnsley today. The Irish international has also been linked with a move to Celtic. Clarke did not say which club made the bid for the striker, but it is believed to be Blackburn after they showed interest earlier this summer.
Rovers manager Steve Kean is in the market for attack minded players this summer, having already signed striker Leon Best and pursuing QPR's DJ Campbell as well. Now, after Bromwich's 0-0 draw with Barnsley, Clarke will have to see this weekend whether or not Cox will decide to stay put.
"A bid has been put in for Simon and you know what it's like when something like (this) happens," Clarke said. "The player can become a little bit distracted so I made the decision not to bring him today.
"Things might resolve themselves over the weekend. If they don't, Simon will be back working with us. In fact, I know he's due in tomorrow for training with the group."
West Bromwich open their Premier League campaign against Liverpool, on August 18.
