The 34-year old, Ivory Coast international has announced that he will be leaving Chelsea after 8 years. His last kick of a ball in a Chelsea shirt happened to be the kick that won Chelsea the UEFA Champions League, for the first time in there history (Pictured above). Chelsea attempted a reformation with younger talents under AVB which saw Fernando Torres overtake Didier Drogba as the lead striker. With Chelsea and AVB struggling, enter: Roberto Di Matteo! He rejuvenated the tired Chelsea side by introducing Lampard and Drogba once more. These two proved key against Napoli, Benfica and especially Barcelona. Drogba scoring against Barca in the first-leg in Stamford Bridge proved to be crucial to take Chelsea to their first Champions League final since that heartbreaking final in 2008 in Moscow against Manchester United which saw captain John Terry slip and miss a penalty which subsequently cost the Blues the title. Even when Chelsea looked down-and-out in the 2012 final against the Bavarian side of Bayern Munich with less than 10-minutes remaining and a deficit of a goal to overcome, right on queue, the trusty target-man steps in with the equaliser. Roughly 40-minutes later and Chelsea are about to go 2-0 down in the penalty shootout but manage to equalise and then win the shootout courtesy of, guess who? Didier Drogba. Obviously it would be unfair to say that he alone saved Chelsea's season. Old trusted individuals such as the Blues Brothers of Lampard and Terry and were key as always along with the fantastic and reliable Petr Cech. This was accompanied with new faces such as the Spanish wizard Juan Mata and new leases of life for Fernando Torres, Salomon Kalou and Ramires caused one of the greatest comebacks of all time in a season. Drogba has announced that his 8-year spell at Chelsea will come to an end and has stated that the Blues are "in good hands" with Torres up top. Drogba seems to have faith in Torres but can he fulfill Chelsea's striker requirements season after season? Can Chelsea be a challenging team without Didier Drogba?
This is my first report and feedback, both on my writing style and the topic chosen would be appreicated!
