In the last couple of days speculation has gone a little quiet on the not so popular potential ‘return’ of Andy Carroll. There appear to be few possible exit routes for the forward, AC Milan and Fulham both look as though they have lined up cheaper alternatives.
I did see the
title of an article yesterday, which if my own previous posts are anything to
go by, won’t have met with many positive comments. It suggested a large cash bid
plus Demba Ba, presumably going in the other direction to Liverpool. There
would be few Liverpool fans who could complain about such a deal. However, I
think the whole of Tyneside would be up in arms. It is something I suggested
myself when the story first broke. But I didn’t suggest for one minute that
Newcastle would shell out a massive fee also.
This
morning though, Demba Ba’s potential suitors come from a little further afield,
Russian outfit Rubin Kazan. Newcastle has moved to quash the
story that they had already triggered Ba’s £7million release-clause. They aren’t
the only club cueing up for Newcastle’s top scorer.
It also appears that Newcastle with one or two of their inquiries, long-term
may be resigned to losing Demba Ba. At the same time their interest looks as
though it has also cooled towards Carroll. Their own cheaper alternative could
be Marseille’s £15million forward Loic Remy. But any big purchase would probably suggest the exit of Ba,
one way or another.
