Scholes Admits Man City Was the Best Last Season

Man United’s veteran midfielder Paul Scholes claimed that neighbouring Man City deserved to win the EPL title last season. Scholes said City probably played the best football overall and were a good team to watch. And from that aspect they were the best side in England and deserved to win.

However, he said that he still can’t stand the sight of Vincent Kompany lifting the trophy on the last day of the season following their dramatic last-second 3-2 win over QPR. Scholes claimed, “You always say the best team wins the league – and City were the best team last year. The football they played for most of the season was fantastic."

Scholes added that City has set the standard for all other EPL teams to try and reach. “They have raised the bar and it’s up to us to now kick on and do even better than they did." He admitted that there were too many times last season when United simply didn’t play well enough to win and they have to improve as a team this season to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Other than that, Scholes couldn’t really explain how United threw away an eight-point lead with just six games to play in the season. He thinks most supporters felt the title race was all over when City travelled down to London and were beaten by Arsenal. He believes some players may have relaxed a little at that point, but they still had a job to do and failed to do finish it.

“We failed at the end of last season, we should have won the league and didn’t. It was a major disappointment to lose the league from there. It’s not nice when you see another team celebrating winning the league on the last day of the season and that picture stays with you.”

There’s nothing wrong with Scholes speaking his mind and being honest. Hopefully his words will help motivate his teammates this season as United’s mission is to regain the league trophy they let slip through their fingers just a few months ago.
