For Manchester United, the pursuit for a new midfielder is proving to be worst than the quest for the Holy Grail. After several names such as João Moutinho, Luka Modric and most recently the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Moura seemed condemned to failure, a new name popped out according to the European sports press yesterday: the new Turkish wonder, Nuri Sahin. According to the press, Manchester United will need to spend £20 million in order to take Sahin to Old Trafford. This is a fair price, I think. The Turkish midfielder was never a first option for José Mourinho at Real Madrid and the blabbermouths out there are claiming that he expressed his intention to leave Los Merengues. The 23-year old player just managed to complete 10 appearances with Real Madrid last season and only 4 of them were for the Spanish League. After he showed some brilliancy with Borussia Dortmund, Sahin moved to Madrid last season expressing his desire to work with Mourinho and to play for such a famous club. Despite all of this, Sahin’s campaign with Madrid was constantly cursed by injuries. It started early in the season and followed him until the end of the season.
For those who don't know him very well, Sahin is a top class midfielder. Great technique, amazing passing skills and an impressive work rate. The Turkish midfielder is one of those players that is able to decide a match at any given moment with an impressive assist. He is a fairly intelligent player and he will surely fit like a glove in United's midfield.
Nuri Sahin is also a Turkish International and he already played 31 games for the Turkish National Team. He has also several appearances for Turkey’s Youth Squads over the past few years.
Honestly, and with the beginning of the season approaching at a fast pace, I don't think United has much time left on its hands to find a good midfielder. I guess that Nuri Sahin would be a great choice to bring some fresh blood to United's midfield.
What are your thoughts on Nuri Sahin? Is he player enough for the Red Devils? Let me hear from you.
