The one year romance between the Uruguayan player Alvaro Pereira and Chelsea seems to be coming to an end. According to the Portuguese sports press, Alvaro Pereira is currently negotiating his contract with The Blues. The media also claim that Board Members from both clubs have already met to discuss the deal details. Yesterday, Alvaro Pereira was absent from the training session and FC Porto justified that situation by claiming that he was taking care of personal business. A little white lie, I guess.
The Uruguayan defender is not having the time of his life at FC Porto. After his poor attitude last season, after being replaced in a decisive match against SC Braga, he stopped being an option for FC Porto’s unconvincing manager Vítor Pereira. He was constantly relegated to the bench and even to the stands and he didn't take part in any of the pre-season matches.
Alvaro's agent, who seems to have fairly inconsistent opinions about everything, was constantly saying that he was happy at Porto but everything now and then he said that it was time for Alvaro to leave.
The interest of Chelsea in the Uruguayan left back is nothing new, but his transfer fee seemed to have refrained their interest in the past. However, and taking in account Alvaro’s current situation at FC Porto, things will surely be different this time around. The Portuguese media claim that a bid of around £15 million will be enough.
Alvaro Pereira is with FC Porto since 2009 and I risk saying that he is probably one of the best left back in the World. He is a very solid player with tremendous bravery in the field. He is a regular choice for the Uruguay National Team and he was considered one of the best players in the Portuguese League. Alvaro took part in 72 games for FC Porto and he scored 2 goals.
His career at FC Porto has come to an end; despite all of this, Alvaro will surely be one of the fans' favourites forever. His commitment to club was something special. If he agrees terms with Chelsea, he will probably bring plenty of joy to Stamford Bridge.
Do you think he is a good option for Chelsea? Tell me what you think.
