It all started with the buying of Manchester City, after that things just started to slip away from me. I do still love football, football as in the sport, the passion and commitment. I love the fact that all over The World you can play a game of football and all will be forgotten. I love that children can play it anywhere in the country and most of all I love playing it when I get the chance.
But that is just it, I do not love the Premier League, I hate Sky and their crazy over-hyped build ups to standard matches, the rocketing ticket prices, play acting, utter disrespect to referees, managers and fans that is often shown by players but most of all I hate the money. I hate the fact that due to its beauty and popularity our sport has been taken away from us.
I would like to know about people reading this if you have been long term supporters of a club and maybe struggled to get your season ticket this year or have just been priced out of going to matches completely. I for one have.
The millions and millions of pounds that go on marketing for our teams and for organisations like Sky to reap every last penny they can out of a football match, just takes the excitement out of it. Football players are mercenaries and the clubs are businesses, I know this, it has been that way for a long time now, but I can't help but think that I just don't enjoy this like I used to.
Last season should have been one of the most exciting that I had ever witnessed and yet I felt like I was trying to force myself to feel passion for the clubs and the players. Football has disassociated itself from the real fans and now I struggle to find that same passion and elation that I was able to get out of the game. I have fallen out of love with the beautiful game, although no doubt I will have every Match of The Day on series link come Saturday.
Please comment, together the fans must have the power and we must be able to get our clubs back.
