We’ve finally got our man; Robin van Persie is officially a Manchester United player.
The Dutch International completed a
£24 Million move to Old Trafford on Friday, and signing a four year deal in the
progression. Van Persie travelled to Manchester on Thursday to complete
personal terms and then undertake a medical to finally put one of the summer’s
biggest transfer saga’s to bed.
He was last season’s Premier League
top goal scorer with 30 goals, as he announced shortly after Holland’s inadequate
Euro 2010 campaign that he won’t be renewing a deal with Arsenal, which only
had one year left; opting to turn his back on United’s Premier League rivals
after eight years in North London.
It was the Gunner’s failure to
secure silverware which eventually sent him towards the exit, as United, City
and Italian giants Juventus, all fought for his signature as he hoped for
domestic success.
He believes United will provide him
with the platform to succeed, as the ambition of the club and the manager
convincing him that United are the ideal choice.
He
said: "Everyone knows by now that I'm a lover of football. I'm quite
principled in that prospect. It's always difficult to find a perfect match but I
do feel this is the perfect match for me.
"Manchester
United breathes
football. If you look at all players at the club, the stadium and the manager,
my choice was made based on those things.
"When
I have to make hard decisions, I always listen to the little boy inside me and
what he wants. That little boy was screaming for Manchester United."
He
added: "I'm proud to be here and looking forward to achieving big things
with Manchester United.”
He went on to mention that he had a good session in the morning as every United player was helpful and was already used to the friendly atmosphere. Among those RVP is looking to get to know is one of his many strike partners, Wayne Rooney, as he said he’s mentioned many times before that Wayne is a world class striker.
Sir Alex has claimed that van Persie ‘only wanted to join Manchester United’; he told MUTV that “The boy wanted to come, he turned down various clubs. If he hadn’t told Arsenal that he wanted to go to Manchester United, the transfer wouldn’t have happened.” Also admitting along the way that he thought it would be impossible to lure van Persie away from their rivals, but was left with no choice but to make an attempt to sign him once he revealed his decision.
Now
United fans can anticipate the debut of RVP as he is expect to play in their
Premier League opener against Everton on Monday.
What do you make of RVP’s move to
Manchester United? Do you think he can fire United to the Championship? Let me
know your thoughts.
